The soil on which the rabbit will live and evolve is of great importance, not only for its health but also for its well-being and its morale. Rabbit’s feet are suitable for various soils: grass, earth, sand, rock … They are not made to constantly rest on a slippery, hard, wet, or abrasive surface. Unsuitable soil can cause serious health problems, the most common being sore hocks.
When choosing the floor, several parameters must be taken into account:
- Comfort. The ground should allow the rabbit to rest and feel good.
- The possibility of exercising. The rabbit must be able to jump, run, and stand without risking falling!
- The coating must not be toxic if swallowed.
- Maintenance must be easy, without the use of toxic stain removers.

Grass, soil, hay, straw
These are the most pleasant soils for the rabbit. Typically, rabbit owners use grass, hay, and straw as a rabbit cage bottom. It is pleasant and comfortable for your rabbits. Thus, they do not feel disoriented.
The straw brings a touch of conviviality in the cage, but it is also practical. It plays both the role of litter and heating. It’s soft enough to keep your rabbit comfortable, day or night.
Straw cage bottoms are fairly easy to maintain. Just put on gloves, remove the straw, and put on a new one.
Bamboo
Bamboo mat turns out to be a good Natural Mat for your Pet rabbits. They move around smoothly and can sleep quite comfortably. You can still decorate it with cushions or a small cotton rug for more comfort. Maintenance is easy, as these mats are lined with a waterproof coating accidental peeing that does not damage the floor below.

Flat-woven cotton rugs
